Industry reports indicate that Cable and Telecommunications System capabilities are planned to be joined or are being joined. Various companies and consortiums have announced that they plan to offer telecommunications type capabilities over modified cable distribution plant or cable type capabilities over enhanced telecommunications plant. One of the early capabilities which many companies plan to offer over modified cable or telecommunications plant is a wireless communications service referred to as Personal Communications Service (PCS). This paper will concentrate on three typical architectures which could be used to provide PCS.
