We present a comparison between the performancesof single-carrier modulation with equalization andmulticarrier modulation on simulated cable television(CATV) channels. Simulations indicate that for agiven data rate, the complexity of multicarrier is significantlylower than that of a single-carrier system.
Furthermore, multicarrier is able to reduce the effectsof various distortions on a CATV network, includingmicroreflections and interference from external signalssuch as amateur radio, with a reasonable computationalcomplexity while achieving information bit rateson the order of 80 Mbitsfs.
