Field testing was conducted to investigate the effects of cable television system electronics on downstream video and high speed data transmission. Three system configurations were used for the testing: a 15 year old single ended 12 channel plant; a 3 year old 35 channel push-pull plant; and a 1 year old 54 channel feed forward plant. Various RF, video, and digital tests and measurements were performed to determine if a relationship exists between typical cable television system operating characteristics and the performance of video and high speed data signals on these systems.
